The Awakening Soul: Living Wide Awake

Something was calling me back to my body when I noticed my mother and my cousin standing in joyous celebration at my bedside.  “Hi, there!” I waved and smiled as I passed them on my way to....what?  Part way back into my sleeping body I realized that it was the incessant ringing of the phone that was calling me back to earth.  I reached over to answer it.

“Hello, Michael?” It was Raphaelle, my wife, crying on the other end of the line. “I have bad news.”  Oh no, I thought to myself, our dog got run over by a truck. 

“Your mother....she passed away in the middle of the night.”

“Well, she’s right here next to my bed with Yoshiko [my cousin who had committed suicide some 35 years earlier],” I said.

“Oh, good,” said Raphaelle.  “Talk to her first and then call me back.”

This is the way we live, Raphaelle and me.  It’s wonderful to have a partner who knows her priorities in life.  She knew that it was much more important that I talk with my deceased mother who was standing next to me at that moment than for us to discuss what might have happened to her.

What kind of life do you live after you go to sleep at night or before you wake up in the morning?  This is a vital question that most people fail to ask and even fewer people discover the answers to.  It is essentially the same question as: What kind of life are you going to live after you die and before you are reborn?

For the past thirty-five years, I have been consciously aware of teaching every night after I put my body down on the bed and I withdraw much of myself out of it.  I make the rounds of all of my “patients” - those souls that I am helping heal themselves - with many of my advanced students in tow, much like a doctor would do daily in a teaching hospital with the interns and advanced medical students.  I give lectures, demonstrations, workshops and special presentations nightly to approximately 3000 souls.  I may work with individual souls on their next steps in learning and growth.  I often take some of them on “field trips” to various places of interest as well as to special events occurring both on the earthly planes as well as in the more celestial realms.  I may act like a movie theater projectionist for some to give them a kind of “This Is Your Life” premier. 

Every night is different and full of learning and healing.  What I teach in my seminars in my so-called waking life is barely a “Reader’s Digest” edition of what I teach out of the body.  I have souls who are not yet reincarnated, those who are advanced souls currently incarnated but are still babies on earth, those who are my students both in and out of the body, and those who are preparing to depart their earthly life soon.  And, the temples of healing, halls of learning, and cathedrals of worship that we frequent are beyond the greatest works of architecture and art imaginable on earth.

Are you completely missing out on all the fun and excitement? No, because you are already living that life. Well, it may not be the one I’ve describe, but it is one that you live beyond the earthly one you live during your waking consciousness every day.  The only part you may be missing is that you forgot you are living an immeasurably greater life than what most people consider life.  What some refer to as “sixth sensory,” “intuitive,” or “psychic” living is just the beginning of living our eternal life while we are still incarnated here. 

Many people consider me to be psychic because I see them as the immortal souls that they are.  I see them the way they look as souls.  I also see their auras, their chakra energy centers, and I see many things about their past and sometimes I will even speak of the future. But, what does it really mean to be “psychic”?

We are all psychic.  It just means that we are immortal souls and express the awareness and abilities inherent in being souls.  As souls we aren’t a limited physical/emotional/intellectual body-mind personality.  The particular degree of awareness and kinds of abilities that we express are due to our interests, what we love most.

The car mechanic, for example, that so loves to tinker with automobile engines is just as psychic as I am, except that he uses his soul energies to be aware of how cars function, but not necessarily to see auras.  Yet, how does your expert mechanic so easily identify the problem when you don’t have a clue?  The same goes for a computer genius with computers.  Or the orchestral conductor who calls you out of a dozen violinists to say that your B-note in that phrase was a bit flat?  How about the homicide detective who finds the key evidence at the crime scene that most of us wouldn’t have even noticed?  Or the artist who sees in an average apple a sculpture of exquisite beauty?  All these are instances of us expressing our soul awareness and energies through our love of various facets of life. 

When we love music, we naturally hone the various abilities that help us appreciate and express that music.  I love God and God is spirit.  As I have looked for God for lifetimes, I began to see more and more of God in everything and everyone, for God is All.  As I began to see more of spirit, people began to look more radiant.  They were no longer obscured by the flesh and bones we identify as our bodies.  It’s like seeing the clothing that a person is wearing but not identifying that person as the clothing.  We know that there is a person underneath the clothes.  When you love the spirit, you begin to see the spirit that is under and beyond the person.  You begin to see the aura of the soul shining through and around the person.  Then, as you love God even more, you begin to see the energy centers through which that soul expresses itself as the aura around the body.  You begin to see the mental images that the soul created through its mind.  When you seek to discover where those thoughts are formed, you begin to see the geometry of creativity expressing itself.  Energy always follows what we love most.

If we love to complain, our energy produces more to complain about.  If we love to hate, we find more things to hate.  If we love the materiality of this world, our psychic energy flows there and we find that we become successful in the things of this world.  If we love the limitless and eternal, it leads us to our true home.

Some spiritual masters have guided their disciples away from the pursuit of their psychic abilities.  They were not against psychic development, they were simply aware that when a student developed spiritually enough, those psychic abilities would naturally emerge and they would have more wisdom with which to manage them.  They also knew the tendency for beginners to put the cart before the horse and begin to focus on the object of their psychic fascination rather than use their abilities for the fulfillment of their soul purpose.

Yet, now, the time has come when there are many more souls reincarnating who have previously developed more spiritually.  Thus, they are incarnating with their sixth sense or psychic abilities much more tuned to the higher realms.  Some of the children born with these abilities would have been hailed as the return of great teachers, seers and healers in more “primitive” cultures that had preserved the spiritual traditions or in the more spiritually aware societies of old in which birth was recognized as the continuity of eternal life. 

A wise soul is a wise soul regardless of the age or condition of the body it is in at any given moment.  Yet, if the whole of a culture is hell-bent on addressing only the material and intellectual, we miss celebrating the return of more awakened souls into their new incarnations.  Often, the souls, as wise as they may be, realize that much of their energies must be used to manage the onslaught of ignorance all around them.  We have learned to lower our energies and dumb down our awareness and abilities to get along with others.  As any animal lover knows, animals are aware, intelligent and very psychic creatures until we turn them into dumb ones.  Often a similar thing happens with our aware, sensitive, intelligent, and very psychic children.

What we must begin to establish if we are to usher in the Golden Age is a new way to educate our children that fully addresses the psychic nature of their being and validates who they already are as immortal souls as they return for a new incarnation.  Their education must provide spiritual tools for managing their awareness, sensitivity and power and provide the means for communicating soul-to-soul, spirit-to-spirit. 

Spiritual education for the body means teaching the body to recognize you as spirit.  True spiritual education, on the other hand, means that we need to teach the soul, whether that of a child or an adult, the ways of the human mind and body so that it can live as the immortal, aware and loving being that it is while incarnated in its current human personality.  Psychic development is learning to live as yourself as an immortal soul in the body-mind-personality into which you have incarnated.  It is a gentle and loving reminder of what you already have, know and are.
